Simons suggestion sounds fine to me. I don't have the spell but I'm happy to play it that way.

Also Dave, we made a small mistake with that Control Soldier spell, only one can be active at a time.

It's got to be hidden otherwise the spell is completely useless(?)

I thought mind control was one per spell caster (so 2 in total).

Yeah one per caster for Mind Control. In that case I think we played it right.

I noticed when watching Ash Barker's Frostgrave matches on Youtube that when they get to the soldier phase, the soldiers take it in turns. For example if I have the initiative, I move my Barbarian first, then you move your Ranger, than I move my Archer etc (instead of me moving all my soldiers then you moving all yours) This seem to fits with the rules as written, shall we play it that way from now on?

Illusory Soldier change is fine by me.

I'm fairly certain we're playing the soldier phase right though. The primary player activates any of his soldiers left, then the secondary, and so on until all players have activated all remaining soldiers.

If it was one at a time it would say 'one of his soldiers' not 'any soldiers'.

The 'and so on' bit is to account for three+ player games and is written the same in the wizard/apprentice phases.

Agree with Tom on the activations. It would be a bit strange if the Wizard and Apprentice phases were completed entirely by one player than the next, then the soldier phase as an "I-Go-U-Go".

Nope, can still be used to give the multiple combat assist, to win combats and push models into fire lanes, tie up spell casters/bowmen in combat, find Fools Gold (which disappears when a model gets base-to-base), lure Wandering Monsters towards the enemy, and other uses. You've just got to be creative with it.
At the very minimum, you can use it as a shield.

All that said, I still prefer to make it a secret.

Confirmed in Lead Adventure FAQ that we were doing the soldier phase correctly.

After a few games, I certainly of the feeling we need to do away with the "Frostgrave Tesco" for buying magic. Coming up against the cash rich warbands, like Dan's, where even the basic soldiers are carrying magic items (often the same ones) is a) not fun for the opponent carrying basic stuff (cash-poor, like me!), and b) seems to fly in the face of the premise that the wizards are fighting to find the rare items in amonst the ruins - why risk your life looking for them when you can just go to the merchant for them?

I'm going to try an knock up a table (a bit like the Rare Trade chart in Necromunda), and on a suggestion from Dave, you can roll once on the table per member of your warband not taken out of action. You see what you get offered, and that's it - no buying 2 or 3 magic swords each game unrss you're offered them.

I have no problems with free shopping but also no problems with restricting it. I wouldn't tie it to surviving numbers though. Adds insult to injury after a heavy loss.

The rulebook already has tables for each treasure type so maybe one roll on each table (weapons, armour, scrolls, books, potions, items)? If you want a second roll on a particular table you have to buy the first thing that was offered first. Nice and simple and saves having to come up with and consult new tables.

Does that mean I have to give my scroll back? :( Having only played one game and shopped once I think you heard all my gripes Simon. Happy to go with whatever the new purchase rules end up being.
