Bad tournament for me, the 1-0-2 is flattering. Made some mistakes, but mainly just a really bad dice weekend. Played Hafling, Pro Elf and Norse, and yet managed a grand total of 6 cas (plus one foul and a crowd surf).
Game #1: vs SomeBlokeCalledTom (Halflings): Actually wasn't looking forward to this game, as it was his first tournament BB game, so I had the "curse of the n00b" to contend with as well as facing 'flings (hate playing against them). Had also decided to drop Tackle and take Frenzy on the Blitzer the night before. he received an a touchback gave it to the sidestepping 'fling. He KO'd the Frenzy Blitzer, and had the ball pretty safe, but a risky 1D Block with a lino meant I could push the ball carrier between the two trees, giving me a 1D Blitz on the ball with my Block thrower, but needing a both down. Got it, and the ball scattered kindly, meaning I managed to dodge away and pick up the ball (needing sure hands) and semi-protect it. Managed to finally score in T8 after he played a good defence. Plenty of KOs each, and some poor KO rolls on my part (another story of the weekend) meant I received 2nd half 9 vs 11. it was looking a bit dicey at first as the ball went deep, but then the halflings started leaving the pitch. In the end he was left with the two trees and Deeproot, so I used the Ogre (who'd done nothing all game) to hit DR on a 2D Blitz. Both Down/Both Down.
Luckily no damage, and he had another go next turn and managed to BH the tree.
Final score 2-1, 2-1
Game #2: vs Besters (Pro Elf): Possibly one of the most annoying games I've ever had. 2D Blocks vs the elfs- skulls, pushes and both down against the Blitzers; Jim's 2D against me - Pows and Pows!. When I did knock an Elf over I couldn't roll a 7. Managed to make him score in t4, but a screwed up Block meant I had to risk a Pass in T7. Of course the one player I didn't mark (because I didn't want to risk a catcher dodging) rolled a 5 to intercept which for an Elf is a interception.
2nd Half went pretty much the same way - couldn't remove elfs from the field, couldn't advance more than a square or two a turn, and eventually had to try a pass, which of course failed (rerollable 4+ needed).
Knowing Besters won all 6 games doesn't make it any better.
Final score 0-1, 2-1
Game #3: vs Maverick (Norse): Thought Frenzy might finally help me, and after the 1st turn actually thought I had a good chance as I managed to KO the Snow Troll on the first Blitz, but that was as good as it got. Again, 2D Blocks rarely knocked anyone over for me, and when I did couldn't break AV. Couldn't move the ball and the half finished 0-0. Made a decent defence, and although I couldn't stop the score (failed to knock down the ball carrier on 2D) I did prevent him from stalling (pushed him in the EZ) to give myself 3 turns to equalise. Opening Block to free up a Guard to make room for the catcher, Both Down/both down - reroll - both down/both down - turnover. Maverick got two players on the ball, I blitzed one off, picked up the ball (needing sure hands again), and failed the GFI to make a Hand-off, and that was the end of my chance. Maverick had a go to get 2-0, but failed a pick up.
Final score 0-1, 1-1
A frustrating tournament on the table, though fun off it. Poor AV rolls (even for me), crap KO rolls (failed 14 from 18) and some bad luck, along with the obligatory bad decisions from me just meant I never really got going in any of the games. Annoyed I couldn't make day 2 (though my NAF ranking is pleased!).
Oh well, onto the next!
