Weren't 4th and 5th like that too?

I fondly remember the days of 2nd edition where you needed about a tree's worth of books and card to play a 1000 point game that would take most of an afternoon to play 2 turns...

3rd through 6th you really just needed a rulebook and your own codex. Maybe one other codex if you were running allies. 7th was when it started being crazy again with all the formations and soup nonsense and 8th is just whole levels above that.

At least they've simplified terrain now into 4 types, with a bunch of stackable traits. Making for many many convenient combinations of terrain rules.

That being said, being able to blow terrain up is cool. Meaning I have the opportunity to literally miss the broadside of a barn with my dice rolls

Glad it's not just me now. Going to feel really odd playing that matchup from the marine side for once.

You'll probably still beat me! Got any tips?
What I have so far is not entirely legal as only got 8 each of termies and hormies but also got 3 warriors, fex, steelers and brood lord, venom or zoanthropes and a tyrant. Like the sound of Jormungandr as a Hive fleet.

Not much. I've not used them for regular 40k since really early in 8th, and with the core rules about to change probably completely different things will be good now. If I remember rightly the codex does give bonuses for larger squads so you will want to bulk them out a bit.

The Open War(cry) cards are interesting so i'm tempted to pick those up.
