The wold

Postby MoodyGit (Gary) » Sun Jul 13, 2014 6:45 am

This was originally a project I started when we first learned to play War Machine. I had chosen circle as my faction and thought I would see if I could do some terrain to play over. At the same time i was moving house so had to 'lose' some polystyrene a work colleague had given me from their other job at the local college. As I live on the chalky downs near Stonehenge (20 mins away) I decided on some sort of pagen temple based on geography rather than stone building.
The story unfolds......

I wanted the playing surface to be stackable so I took my four by four board and cut into manageable pieces.

The plan was to stick the polystyrene to the board and cut through the finished item once dried. I used anything I could lay my hands on to weigh down while glueing.

Once dry I cleaned up and started sculpting the contours with a hot wire cutter. (Thanks Dad)

The finished hilly landscape. Just like home.

My final choice was to cut a spiral into the ground itself to create the temple creating a break to the standard green. This would have a river dissecting it to help move troops in.

Picture show the method used to create the spiral.

Then the mind numbing job of cutting it all out. Had to use a bread knife as the hot cutter was to big.

First the river,

Then the spiral

And as mentioned in the introduction I then cut through from the bottom to make them bite size.

The base coat added. I only had the kids poster paints so I have to be careful I don't leave it out in the rain.
