Now has rules for general All Out War:- games played with a minimum of 301pts and are not about resource-gathering, or even clearing out walkers, but instead hinge on bad blood, revenge and displays of power.

Given the points value for this, the playing area is now 20"x 40", supply counters are still placed but no walkers start the game in play. They now enter play as normal and whenever MAYHEM is caused. You also have to draw 2 event cards per turn rather than the normal 1. You can deploy up to 8" from your edge rather than up against it but probably most interesting there are now Objective cards which are drawn at random (each player gets 2) and these function a little like Schemes and Strategies in Malifaux, except there are 8 unique cards (with titles such as 'Make an Example', 'Take Out the Big Guy' and 'Take and Hold') so you won't get the same objectives as your opponent.

Later in the year, Wave 5 is due to be released with advanced rules for Map-based Campaigns. Couple this with the earlier rules on character progression, and I think we have the makings of a good campaign.

Sounds interesting, happy to play this version of you have the bits ready? If not we can play standard, itā€™s been a while since I played!

Looks like a September release date for Wave 5 of TWD.

According to Mantic's Blog, you will now be able to 'buy' custom skills for the well known comic book (sorry - graphic novel... ) characters rather than just have them to design them in to your custom characters, and confirmation of a Map-based Campaign system (which I for one, am particularly looking forward to).

Link to the blog his here for further details: https://manticblog.com/2018/07/20/the-walking-dead-week-whats-in-wave-five/

And there's going to be a multiplayer 'Free for All' scenario. Only downside is it will need a massive 40" x 40" playing area.

Wave 5 has arrived.

Purchasable custom skills look pretty good, should give a little extra twist to some standalone games.

The map based campaign looks like it has some potential, especially if coupled with previous expansion rules such as experience points and under-dog bonuses. It also should be pretty easy to customise a map and use the special locations rules away from Washington - Zombie Apocalypse across North West Hampshire anyone? Currently I think it may suffer from the traditional map based campaign problem of having to wait for everyone to play a game during a campaign turn (although there is a form of mitigation should anyone wish to play more than 1 game per round) so it would be good to sit down and understand some of the balance mechanisms in the Necromunda Campaigns to see how it would be possible to allow for a varying number of games per individual without disadvantaging (too much) someone who could only squeeze in the bear minimum.

The 3+ player scenario looks decent enough and although primarily designed as a 'in-campaign' scenario, it would probably also work just as well as a standalone multiplayer game.

Necromunda handles it by pretty much embracing not being balanced. Lots of the missions have a random number of randomly chosen guys from your roster.

The team with the lower rating get a few bonus cards as a bit of a leg up but that's it.
