Android: Netrunner

Postby Tom » Sun Oct 19, 2014 2:52 pm

I saw a few boxes of Tragic cards floating around last week. Now tempting though it is, I'm not going down that money hole again but it reminded me about Netrunner which I've heard great things about.

Does anyone own it? Has anyone tried it? Does anyone want to try it?

I've long considered getting the starter set but held off due to lack of anyone to likely play it with. If any of you gents like the look of it I might put it back on my Christmas list.

Mike's son plays it a lot, but he's moved up north.
Lunchmoney, who's coming up this week for Man O'War, plays it a lot, but he's from Poole way.
I've seen people play it, as few other BB coaches I know play it.

I've thought about it, but never gone any further than that.

If you're about the weekend of the 1st/2nd of November when we run our Blood Bowl tournament, I expect Lunchmoney could bring (some of) his set with him so you could have a run through of it.

I own it. All of it (up to and including the latest data packs as and when they come out).
It's a great, asymmetrical, game.

I know this doesn't help you with finding players (as I don't exactly live nearby and am not really "on call" to play a game at short notice), but I can't recommend this game enough.

With the starting box you can pretty much ignore the deck building side of the game until you are more comfortable. Just pick a faction, shuffle in the neutrals, and away you go. Once you are more au fait with the mechanics start mixing up the core decks and buying the data packs to further customise your choices. As it's a living card game there is no element of chance in the cards you get, you know exactly what you are buying.

I suggest checking http://www.cardgamedb.com/ and http://netrunnerdb.com/ for deck building advice general strategy.
Also if you have an android phone or tablet check out https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... lder&hl=en and https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rack&hl=en (there are probably apple equivalents, but I don't have a iDevice)

I won't be free that weekend.

So not looking hugely hopeful for a club night game. Ah well.

I remember playing the original version back in the 90s and enjoying that, so I'd be up for giving the new one a go.
