Roman invasion of Britain

Postby Ray » Wed Jan 20, 2021 5:21 pm

Having not achieved anything for most of last year, I've had a sudden burst of productivity and painted these 6mm Romans. I've got the rest of the army still to go, and an entire British army for them to face off against. Planning to get most sides done so people can play without having to buy anything. Probably going to get some flock for the bases once everything is finished.

Mental, you’ve even done the yellow on the shields!

No, these are based on 60x30 for polemos (Baccus ruleset). I've also got a copy of To the Strongest somewhere, which is played on a grid so doesn't care about base size at all.

Did some Roman auxiliary infantry. That's all the Romans I have base coated so the rest will have to wait until I've managed to get some more black spray. Fortunately I have some British ready so I'll work on those next.

You have the patience of a saint.

Painting so many units like that takes a certain skill.

I take it you paint them in strips then base?

Yes. They are cast 4 to a strip, so 9 strips to a base. I paint all the strips as a batch then glue them to a base, but don't do the rest of the basing until I've got several to do at once.

No idea. I guess we will find out once games are actually a thing again and I can convince someone to give it a go.
