You could always not bother trying to rescue him, the campaign will end and he will be automatically returned to you

Hmmm, feels slightly cheaty but that does seem to be the case. As long as I don't fight Charlie next week then I get my man back and Charlie gets the creds. It's a win/win. We can discuss when we see who is in for games.

Though seeing as he is the Renderizer champion I do quite like the idea of him slipping his bonds on a 7+ on 2D6 and then being in the middle of a bunch of people looking the wrong way. Especially as I get to choose tactics cards! I'm sure that with that level of bravado I'll fail repeatedly to free him and manage to run away without him.

Wait?! During Charlie’s rescue mission he managed to capture your champion? If so that’s pretty hilarious!

With regards to getting gangers back for “free” I’d say that’s only if they are captured in the last week of the final cycle (in which case you wouldn’t even bother rolling to see if anyone is captured) and you have no opportunity to make a rescue attempt.

Rules as written I believe returns all captured fighters for free and awards credits to the people who had captured them at the end of the campaign, so this method of getting them back only works if they get captured really late. I'm assuming it was written this way to avoid people getting annoyed at losing captured gang members if they don't get a chance to play the rescue mission in time.
